Energy Efficiency is becoming one of the most critical components of APEC economiesf energy strategies. APEC leaders recognise that energy efficiency improvements will help their economies chart new pathways for secure and sustainable development, including strengthening energy security, boosting business productivity and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
At the 8th Meeting of APEC Energy Ministers in Darwin, Australia in May 2007, APEC Energy Ministers encouraged APEC economies to individually set goals and formulate action plans for improving energy efficiency on an overall and/or sector basis. In the Sydney Declaration of September 2007, APEC Leaders agreed to work towards achieving an APEC-wide regional aspirational goal of a reduction in energy intensity of at least 25% by 2030 (with 2005 as the base year). To this end, APEC economies were encouraged to set individual goals and action plans for improving energy efficiency, reflecting the individual circumstances of each economy.
Drawing on the collaborative efforts by APEC EWG members, EGEEC members and governmental energy efficiency experts, APERCfs team of researchers have developed a comprehensive report on recent goals, action plans, policies and measures for energy efficiency improvement in twenty APEC economies. The Compendium of Energy Efficiency Policies of APEC Economies is a publication intended to promote information sharing in the field of energy efficiency and energy conservation across the APEC economies under the common format.
The complete Compendium for twenty APEC economies and separate chapters for individual APEC economies compiled as of March 2010 are available in PDF format from the list below.
